The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced Friday it has rescued an abducted Chinese national and arrested 20 individuals for allegedly violating the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

In a press briefing, NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said the NBI Special Task Force immediately proceeded to Aseana 3, West Tower in Parañaque City upon the receipt of a complaint made by the wife of the Chinese kidnap victim.

The complainant alleged that her husband, who worked as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) for a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) company, operating under the trade name “LWE,” was being held against his will by his employers.

The NBI agents later found out that it was a fully operational scam hub engaged in online fraud activities.
