The private operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has expanded its inter-terminal shuttle bus fleet to 12 to improve passenger mobility amid increasing air travel demand.

Having additional vehicles ensures smooth operations during peak periods, maintenance schedules, and emergencies. It also allows NAIA to maintain high service standards while prioritizing passenger safety and comfort.

Originally designed to accommodate 35 million passengers per year, NAIA handled 50.1 million travelers in 2024, marking a 10.43% increase from 2023 and surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

“NAIA is operating well beyond its capacity, and while major infrastructure upgrades are underway, expanding our shuttle fleet is an immediate step to enhance accessibility and convenience for passengers,” said Ramon Ang, President of New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).

The new buses provide round-the-clock, free transfers for passengers with connecting flights, reducing wait times and alleviating congestion.

These services complement broader improvements, including expanded terminal curbside areas and an upgraded traffic management system for smoother operations.

Earlier this year, the NNIC also deployed two new ambulances for quick medical assistance, three “follow-me” vehicles to improve aircraft guidance and minimize taxi times, and four inter-terminal coasters to facilitate seamless passenger transfers, especially for those with connecting flights or mobility challenges.

Since taking over NAIA operations in September 2024, NNIC—a consortium led by San Miguel Corporation—has introduced major enhancements to modernize the airport and support the country’s tourism and economic growth.
