With the commencement of the campaign period for national candidates in the 2025 midterm elections this month, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized that he will ensure the prosecution of any police officers involved in partisan politics.
“I will not hesitate to file charges and ensure that due process is followed,” Remulla stated.
“You’re familiar with my track record. I have zero tolerance for misconduct, especially within the Philippine National Police (PNP),” Remulla said during a press conference in Baguio City, part of his visit to the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region in La Trinidad, Benguet, last Wednesday.
Remulla highlighted the Department’s efforts to pursue cases against corrupt PNP members involved in the 990-kilo drug bust in Manila in 2022.
“I immediately reviewed those cases, and now they are behind bars, so I won’t hesitate,” he said.
He also expressed full support for the “Kontra Bigay” campaign led by the Commission on Elections, adding that it should be paired with a “Kontra Tanggap” initiative.
“They should go hand in hand. It’s a two-pronged approach: Kontra Bigay and Kontra Tanggap,” Remulla emphasized.
As a former local official in Cavite, he shared that he has never supported vote-buying. “I don’t believe in vote-buying, and it has never been necessary in our province. However, it’s a cultural issue that needs to be addressed on a national level,” Remulla concluded.
