In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Philippine-China diplomatic relations, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) on Wednesday evening vowed to strengthen the bond between both countries amid the West Philippine Sea (WPS) issue.

In his message, FFCCCII president Dr. Cecilio Pedro said the festivity is a reminder of the ties that bind the Filipino-Chinese community.

“This golden milestone symbolizes long-standing relations between our nations spanning centuries and commemorates the deep cultural and economic bonds between the Filipino and Chinese people. Over the years, we have built bridges of understanding and nurtured a partnership that has withstood the test of time,” Pedro said.

With this year’s theme “Friendship Beyond 50: Para sa Kinabukasan, Pagkakaibigan ang Kailangan,” he underscored they will continue to promote communication and keep the bond intact despite the WPS conflict.

Meanwhile, FFCCCII recognized outstanding friendship awardees including Sen. Imee Marcos, former first lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos, Ricky Lee (Literature), Kenneth Cobonpue (Industrial Design), and Jessica Soho (Journalism).

Likewise, Pedro thanked the business leaders and local and national government officials from different provinces for playing a crucial role in the development of the two countries.

In 1975, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai and former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. signed the Joint Communique of the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of the Philippines on the establishment of diplomatic relations.
