P28-m worth of marijuana, grenade seized in Isabela checkpoint

Tuguegarao, Cagayan—Approximately P28-million worth of marijuana and a grenade were seized from two men at a checkpoint in Roxas, Isabela last Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

The police patrol car was allegedly struck by a fast black SUV that attempted to bypass the checkpoint at around 10:30 p.m.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel in Roxas initiated a 15-minute chase, collaborating with nearby police stations in Barangay Centro, Mallig.

Two men on board the SUV were then taken into custody. “Jomel” and “Rico,” both 30-year-old residents of Baranka Ilaya, Mandaluyong City, were identified as the suspects.

Roxas police searched the said SUV and seized 222 blocks of suspected marijuana with an estimated value of P26,640,000.00, 19 pieces of rolled marijuana worth P2,280,000.00, and a grenade.

Meanwhile, PNP Cagayan Valley Regional Director Brigadier General Antonio Marallag Jr. commended the police officers who executed the operation.

In order to fight crime and catch lawbreakers, he also underlined the significance of maintaining checkpoints in every area of Cagayan Valley.

“This large operation reflects the importance of managing our police checkpoints to maintain order and security in our jurisdiction,” Marallag said. “We will ensure that our police are on duty 24/7 to combat illegal drugs and crime here in the Cagayan Valley.”

The suspects, along with the confiscated evidence, are in the custody of PNP Roxas for the necessary documentation and proper disposition.
