The Commission on Elections said airsoft guns and imitation guns are included in the election gun ban during the election period that began on Jan. 12.
Comelec spokesman Rex Lauduangco cited Section 1 of the poll body’s Resolution No. 11067, which states that airsoft guns and imitation firearms in whatever forms that can cause an ordinary person to believe that they are real, including the parts thereof, are included in the gun ban policy.
Bladed weapons, he added, are also included in the gun ban.
“The ban on firearms and other deadly weapons, including bladed weapons, fall under the gun ban policy. Airsofts, airguns, imitation firearms, replicas are included in the ban,” Laudiangco said.
However, toy guns per se, which are readily and easily distinguishable from real firearms, are excluded from the ban, he added.
“That’s why the enumeration of what would be considered as firearms for purposes of the ban are those which have the look of a real firearm – not readily distinguishable,” Laudiangco said.
