Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to upholding the constitutional right to peaceful assembly in a statement released Monday.

The statement coincided with a nationwide gathering of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) members, dubbed ‘National Peace Rally.’

“To peaceably assemble is a bedrock right guaranteed by our Constitution, cherished by our people, and consistently upheld by this administration” Bersamin said, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding this fundamental freedom.

Bersamin directed government agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the assembly.

He highlighted the agencies’ role in maintaining peace and order, managing traffic, and providing emergency health services. He urged them to be ready to assist whenever necessary.

“We have no doubt that today’s event will be peaceful, orderly, and a testament to the discipline of our INC brethren,” he added.

The Executive Secretary also underscored the need for unity and dialogue in addressing national challenges.

“We view today’s assembly as part of the national conversation we should be having as a people to bring clarity and consensus on issues that face us all and affect our future,” Bersamin stated.

He called on all stakeholders to focus on fostering solidarity, avoiding divisive rhetoric, and contributing to the country’s collective progress.

The INC event, expected to draw a significant number of participants, prompted preparations by authorities to manage traffic and public safety.

Malacañang suspended government work and classes in public and private schools in Manila and Pasay cities in anticipation of the ‘ peace rally.’
