Manila on red alert for INC National Peace Rally—Civil Defense

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) raised a red alert status for Monday’s Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) National Rally for Peace, according to Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

This move aims to ensure comprehensive safety measures for the event, which is expected to draw between 500,000 to 1 million participants to the Quirino Grandstand.

On Sunday OCD Director for Metro Manila George Keyser inspected the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Mobile Command Center stationed at TM Kalaw.

He also met with Society of Communicators and Networkers (SCAN) International Vice President Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Edwin Nasol.

They discussed security preparations in detail. Nasol confirmed that 17,000 INC members are deployed for emergency preparedness and response efforts.

“Safety is our utmost priority as we prepare for this significant event,” Keyser said. “We have mobilized resources and personnel to ensure that every participant can engage in the rally peacefully and without concern.”

Over 120 personnel along with two light urban search and rescue teams from the Philippine Army’s 525th Engineer Combat Battalion will be present supported by 4,418 police officers and 1,200 personnel from the MMDA.

“The collaboration between various agencies and local government units is crucial in ensuring a smooth operation,” Keyser added. “We are also facilitating a Virtual Emergency Operations Center (VEOC) meeting via Zoom for continuous monitoring of the event.”

The INC National Rally for Peace will feature activities such as public prayers, community engagement initiatives, and cultural performances, serving as a significant opportunity for community-building beyond its religious observance, according to the organizers.
