Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada expressed deep concern over the presence of China Coast Guard’s (CCG) largest vessel, dubbed ‘The Monster,’ in waters within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
In a statement late Monday, Estrada said he was particularly bothered, considering the recent recovery of an underwater drone traced to China near Masbate.
“These repeated incursions and unauthorized activities in our waters raise significant concerns about China’s respect for international law and the sovereignty of the Philippines,” according to the senator.
Estrada noted such incidents emphasize the need for continued vigilance and firm commitment to protecting our territorial integrity and maritime rights.
He, therefore, praised the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel for their swift and decisive action in responding to the presence of the CCG vessel.
“Their vigilance and unwavering dedication to safeguarding our maritime territories reflect their commitment to the safety and security of our fisherfolk and coastal communities,” Estrada said.
The senator assured the public that the Philippines “shall not waver, no matter how formidable the force is in challenging the integrity of our territory.”
While reaffirming the Philippines’ commitment to peace, Estrada called for diplomatic solutions to address these maritime issues. He urged adherence to international laws and agreements to maintain stability in the region.
