At midnight on January 1, 2025, the first New Year baby in the Philippines was born at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila.
Lea Mae Razo, a 27-year-old first-time mother, welcomed her daughter, Alea Jayde, after 13 hours of labor.
Razo, who hails from Dagupan, Pangasinan, expressed the challenges of childbirth but emphasized that seeing her baby made it worthwhile.
“My only wish is for my baby to remain healthy and grow up with discipline,” she said.
Dr. Jeglen Cruz, the hospital’s Senior House Officer, confirmed that both mother and baby are under observation but reported no complications.
He acknowledged that a New Year baby symbolizes hope and perseverance for families and communities alike.
Shortly after, another baby girl was born to a 24-year-old mother at the same hospital.
Babies born from 2025 onward are considered part of Generation Beta, the first generation raised in an era dominated by Generative AI.
