The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported ash emission events on Mount Kanlaon that went on for 11 minutes on Tuesday, indicating signs of ongoing activity as Alert Level 3 remains within its vicinity.
In a status update posted on its Facebook page, Phivolcs released a video showing the volcano discharging a 1,200-meter dark plume. The state seismic agency said this was part of a series of emissions recorded this week during its period of intensified unrest.
Phivolcs recorded a total of four ash emission events ranging from 21 minutes to four hours and 35 minutes long since Monday. There were also at least 25 volcanic earthquakes, including four very weak tremors, higher than the 15 seismic events monitored last Sunday.
Kanlaon also emitted a total of 2,200 tons of sulfur dioxide, relatively lower than the 7,198 tons registered the other day. Flying an aircraft over the volcano and entering its six-kilometer permanent danger zone remains prohibited.
