The Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) welcomed a new asset with the arrival of the BRP Juan Magluyan (PC-392), a Jose Andrada-Class Coastal Patrol Vessel of the Philippine Navy, into their area of responsibility.
The formal welcoming ceremony took place at Ensign Majini Pier, Naval Station Romulo Espaldon (NSRE), in Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City.
Prior to joining NFWM, the BRP Juan Magluyan (PC-392) underwent Dry Docking and Other Related Repairs (DDORR) at Josefa Slipways Inc. in Navotas, Manila. This vessel enhances the fleet’s capability to address regional maritime security challenges.
During the event, Rear Admiral Francisco G. Tagamolilla, the Commander of NFWM, was represented by Colonel Jonathan C. Gabor PN(M)(GSC), the Deputy Commander for Marine Operations.
In his remarks, Colonel Gabor emphasized the evolving nature of threats in the region, noting that these challenges now extend beyond traditional warfare to include non-traditional threats such as piracy, human trafficking, smuggling, and terrorism.
“These challenges not only jeopardize our territorial integrity but also put the safety and livelihoods of our people at risk,” he stated. “The BRP Juan Magluyan, now part of the NAVFORWEM Team, is ready to serve and protect. It is well-equipped and enhancing its operational efficiency.”
The deployment of the BRP Juan Magluyan represents the Philippine Navy’s commitment to enhancing NFWM’s operational readiness and strengthening the nation’s maritime defense in Western Mindanao.
