Makati City receives good governance awards from DILG, NDRRMC

The City of Makati has been recognized with the Seal of Good Local Governance by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Mayor Abigail Binay said these achievements highlight her administration’s steadfast dedication to preserving the values of good government and encouraging ongoing development in critical areas.

“These prestigious awards are solid testaments to the hard work and dedication of every employee of Makati. Our commitment to good governance and service excellence remains steadfast, as we strive to provide our citizens with programs and initiatives that truly make a difference in their lives,” she said.

Makati received the official SGLG marker and is set to receive an Incentive Fund amounting to P2 million. The cash award will support local development initiatives that align with national goals and strategic priorities, further enhancing the city’s progress and impact.

“These milestones inspire us to continue raising the bar in governance and public service,” Binay said.

“We will ensure that the trust given to us by our constituents and the recognition from the national government are translated into tangible benefits for our city and its people, as well as substantial support for other localities devastated by calamities,” she added.

The SGLG, institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11292 in 2019, acknowledges LGUs that demonstrate excellence in governance, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and the efficient delivery of public services.

To qualify for the SGLG, LGUs must meet rigorous standards across 10 governance areas including financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace, and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture, and arts; and youth development.

The NDRRMC gave Makati a Beyond Compliant rating during its annual conferment of the Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) Seal and Special Awards for Local DRRM Councils and Offices.

For three years now, the city has exceeded the standards for establishing and functionality of a local council as prescribed in Republic Act 10121.

These achievements reflect Makati City’s dedication to fostering progress and excellence in governance for the benefit of its citizens and vulnerable communities in the country.

The Makati City government has been extending financial assistance and technical support, including the deployment of search and rescue teams, to localities around the country that have been devastated by various calamities.
