President Ferdinand Marcos honored Wednesday 13 distinguished individuals and organizations at the 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas, emphasizing their contributions to the global community.
Speaking at Malacañang, President Marcos commended the awardees for their grit, passion, and resilience, highlighting their accomplishments in various fields that have brought pride to the Philippines.
“The Filipino’s competence, work ethic, and genuine care for others make us a truly remarkable race,” he said.
The Presidential Awards recognize exemplary overseas Filipinos and foreign partners who have fostered relationships benefiting Filipino communities abroad.
This year’s recipients include honorees under the Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino, Pamana ng Pilipino, Banaag, and Kaanib ng Bayan categories.
“Our Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino, Pamana ng Pilipino, at Banaag awardees have ventured to foreign lands far away, faced challenges head-on, and triumphantly managed to excel in every endeavor that they have undertaken,” he said.
“Your stories continue to inspire us to make a difference and to rise above whatever adversity we face,” he added.
The Kaanib ng Bayan awardees—foreign nationals and organizations—were also lauded for their compassion and support for Filipino communities.
The president reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of overseas Filipinos through strengthened labor agreements, anti-trafficking campaigns, and initiatives like the One Repatriation Command Center.
President Marcos acknowledged the globalized nature of modern labor, noting that millions cross borders annually for work. “Our dream is to, one day, make overseas work a choice rather than a necessity,” he said.
The President concluded by urging Filipinos worldwide to emulate the awardees’ resolve and contribute to societal progress. He also encouraged them to reconnect with their roots during the holiday season.
“I invite you to revisit the beauty of our country, the richness of our culture, and the warmth of our people,” he said.
The ceremony coincides with the celebration of Overseas Filipino Month this December. The president extended his congratulations and gratitude to the awardees, saying, “Your awards are well-deserved. Mabuhay ang Pilipinong nasa ibayong dagat!”
