The 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division of the Philippine Army, together with the Philippine National Police and the local government, declared the Zamboanga Peninsula as “insurgency-free” during the 4th Quarter Regular Meeting of the Joint Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (JRTF-ELCAC) for Region 9 at the R&B Pavilion Hall, Mibang Hotel, Dipolog City.
This achievement highlights the successful dismantling of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.
In addition, seven Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) guerilla fronts and three regional CTG units were eradicated, resulting in zero CTG-affected barangays and no active CTG members throughout the region.
The dismantling of the WMRPC was accomplished through sustained operations from 2019 to 2024 and through the concerted efforts of the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, the Provincial/City/Municipal/Barangay Task Forces on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (P/C/M/B TF-ELCAC), and the community.
The Army leadership lauds the genuine public service of all involved in completely ending Communist NPA Terrorism in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
It also urged all other parts of the country to emulate this achievement to fully enhance the economic and developmental potential of their provinces.
