The Commission on Elections reminded all qualified candidates for the 2025 national and local elections to register their online campaign platforms on or before December 13, 2024.
This as almost 4,000 candidates running for various posts have already registered their social media accounts with the poll body.
Comelec chairman George Garcia said the December 13 deadline for the registration of candidates’ or parties’ social media accounts will no longer be extended.
Under Comelec Resolution No. 11064, all candidates, parties, and their campaign teams are mandated to register all of their official social media accounts and pages, websites, podcasts, blogs, vlogs, and other online and internet-based campaign platforms before the Comelec education and information division within 30 calendar days after the filing of certificates of candidacy.
An election task force will review the applications, which will then be endorsed to the Commission en banc.
Approved registration will be published on Comelec’s official website and social media accounts
The Comelec said the move to register social media accounts of candidates and political parties aims to prevent disinformation and misinformation during the campaign period.
If a candidate fails to comply with the requirements and fails to meet the registration deadline, the Comelec will issue a notice of removal or notice to explain, based on the Task Force Katotohanan Karapatan Katarungan (KKK) for the election.
Comelec said a total of 3,904 candidates have submitted their online registration as of December 4, 2024. Among them 24 are senatorial bets, 3,775 local aspirants, and 105 representatives of party-list organizations.
