Philippine Navy ship BRP Jose Loor SR (PC390) rescued a fisherman stranded at sea earlier this week near Andulingan Island, Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi.
According to reports from the Navy, the crew spotted the man clinging to a piece of styrofoam about 6.4 nautical miles north of the island and quickly took action.
The ship’s crew executed a rescue maneuver by throwing a life ring to the fisherman and safely bringing him aboard.
The man, identified as 40-year-old Roco Sambas from Brgy Tandu Banak, Sibutu, had been adrift since December 2, 2024, after his fishing boat capsized while he was fishing near Sibutu Island.
The Navy crew provided him with dry clothes, hot food, coffee, and first aid for minor injuries. Roco Sambas is now in stable condition and receiving care from the ship’s personnel.
