Vice President Sara Duterte said although the essence of Christmas lies in “forgiving, giving, and loving,” her festiveness does not translate into forgiveness.
“I always say it depends on the person. But since I am Vice President, I need to say that is the message and spirit of Christmas. But if it were me, I will not forgive,” Duterte said in a mix of English and Filipino at an Office of the Vice President (OVP) thanksgiving activity on Tuesday.
“People are different, right? Some forgive quickly, while others take longer and even take their anger to their graves,” she added.
On Wednesday, however, the Vice President posted a thanksgiving statement saying: “As part of the Christmas celebration, I send out my message of loving and forgiving to our community.”
In her Tuesday speech, Duterte reminded Filipinos to vote wisely in the upcoming midterm elections instead of “automatically” choosing members of a political family.
She likewise said voters should assess candidates based on qualifications and not over “ayuda” (aid) they might receive from candidates.
The Vice President recently made headlines for her alleged death threats toward President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez.
