Malay, Aklan—Stakeholders in Boracay agreed to help one another in making the resort island become the world’s leading luxury destination, after earning the top plum in Asia from the World Travel Awards.
The plan was discussed during the 6th Council Meeting of the Boracay Caticlan Sustainable Development Council (BCSDC), which was held on November 25 at the Tides Hotel. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Boracay chapter hosted the gathering.
Boracay was recently named Asia’s Leading Luxury Destination of 2024. It bested Phu Quoc, Vietnam, which earned the title in 2023. Boracay also outshined other famous tourist sites in Asia such as Penang, Malaysia; Ko Lanta and Phuket, Thailand.
Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores said among the topics they discussed were the integration of all products and services in Boracay and the implementation of a unified ticketing system.
“We are thankful for the Department of Tourism’s support, especially their invitation to attend the World Travel Market in London,” said Miraflores.
The governor said he hopes that the integration of services and the unified ticketing system will be implemented next year in time for another international tourism event in Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
For his part, Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista said he is studying the business-to-business style of travel to be implemented on this resort island.
“Some resorts are already implementing it in Boracay where tourists are directly delivered to their respective hotels upon arrival. We will just have to expand it,” he added. Currently, many travelers go from port-to-port leading to their booked accommodations.
