Raging ‘Pepito’ forces several LGUs to declare ‘Walang Pasok’ on Nov. 18

Several local government units (LGUs) made early declarations Sunday that classes in all levels for public and private schools as well as work in government offices will be suspended on Monday, November 18, amid the strong winds and heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon ‘Pepito’ (Man-Yi).

As of this posting, the following cities and provinces notified their respective residents to stay indoors until further notice:

ILOCOS REGION

  • Ilocos Sur
  • Pangasinan

CORDILLERA ADMINISTRATIVE REGION

  • Baguio City, Benguet (government offices on half day, work to resume by 1:00 p.m.)
  • Ifugao State University

CENTRAL LUZON

  • Bulacan (Baliwag, Bulakan, Pandi, San Rafael, Santa Maria—classes only)
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Pampanga (Angeles City, Mabalacat—classes only)
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales (Subic—classes only)

CALABARZON

  • Batangas (Laurel, Lian—classes only)
  • Cavite (classes only)
  • Laguna (classes only)
  • Rizal (Morong—classes only)
  • Quezon Province (Infanta, Atimonan—classes only, preschool to senior high school)

METRO MANILA (classes only)

  • Caloocan
  • Marikina
  • Manila
  • Quezon City
  • Parañaque City
  • Pasig City
  • Valenzuela

In a statement on Sunday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said it is leaving the declaration of class and work suspensions to governors and mayors, depending on the situation of their respective LGUs.

“Upon consultation with the relevant government agencies and the NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council), cancellation of work in government offices is given to the respective local chief executives, taking into consideration the situation in their respective localities,” the PCO statement read.
