The Embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines held the second annual Day of the Future on November 14, allowing Filipino students to explore diverse career paths and engage with leaders from various industries for a day.
The Day of the Future is a traditional event in Switzerland where students gain hands-on exposure to different career opportunities, immersing themselves in real-world professional environments.
The Swiss Embassy, in collaboration with the Department of Education, hosted over 300 young Filipino learners from across the country at Swiss companies located in the Philippines.
This year’s program provided students from both elementary and high schools with unique access to workplace settings, allowing them to participate in on-the-job activities that emphasized inclusivity and sustainability in the workplace.
Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara highlighted the importance of international collaboration in enhancing educational systems and workforce readiness.
He commended the Swiss Embassy’s dedication to expanding career awareness among Filipino students.
“I would like to thank the Swiss Embassy for hosting such an affair. It’s a very intriguing and promising event for us in the Philippines,” Angara said.
“A visit is quite different from committing to an apprenticeship or a job. But I think it dovetails with a lot of initiatives that the department is promoting,” he continued.
The event featured participation from members of the Swiss Cultural Fund, represented by Ms. Neva Santos, Office Head of Partners Group; Mr. Samuel Manlosa Jr., Chief Sustainability Officer of Holcim Philippines; Dr. Diana Edralin, General Manager of Roche Philippines; Mr. Cresenciano Maramot, Managing Director of SGS Philippines; Atty. Denya-Gracia Uy-Anastacio, Head of Government and Industry Affairs at Nestlé Philippines; Ms. Christine Fajardo, Communications and Patent Advocacy Head of Novartis; and Mr. Frank Konstanzer, Country Manager of Endress+Hauser.
