Marcos vows to rebuild schools damaged by ‘Marce’ in Ilocos Norte

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. promised to rebuild schools and other public infrastructure damaged by Typhoon ‘Marce’ in Ilocos Norte.

The President gave this assurance during his visit to the town of Pagudpud in his home province on Sunday with Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara and other national government officials.

“We are looking for [a way to] fix [the schools] quickly, so that the children can return, so that they can go back to school,” he said in his remarks

He noted that the Department of Education (DepEd) will be holding alternative learning modes for the time being, so that classes could resume while classrooms are being repaired.

As to the damaged seawall near the National High School, the President said the rehabilitation is now up for bidding.

“We have quite a bit of infrastructure that is broken. Fortunately, that seawall is actually doing that. If you see, there is a way. There is like a seawall but the new one has a road on top. And that’s all we’ll continue with,” the President said.

“We have seen where we can get funding for the seawall. That project is about to be bid. It will continue so quickly,” he added.

To be more effective in responding to emergencies, the President said the government is adopting a whole-of-government approach. He promised to continue helping typhoon victims until their lives go back to normal.

“We’re just here to see that helping is good. And if you have other needs, our LGU (local government unit) is there, the provincial government is there, government agencies are also there. Just approach us and we will do everything we can do,” he said.
