‘Marce’ continues to move further away from Ilocos, likely to stay a typhoon

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 has been lifted as Typhoon ‘Marce’ (International Name: Yinxing) continues to move further away from Ilocos Region, the state weather bureau said.

According to the latest 11 AM advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), ‘Marce’ is moving west southwestward at 20 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kilometers per hour.

Its center was last estimated at 100 km west Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

TCWS No. 2 is still raised over the northwestern portion of mainland Cagayan (Claveria, Santa Praxedes), the western portion of Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 is hoisted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the rest of mainland Cagayan, the northern and western portions of Isabela, the northern and western portions of Nueva Vizcaya, the northwestern portion of Quirino, the rest of Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and the northern and central portions of Pangasinan.

The weather disturbance will continue moving generally westward and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region Friday afternoon or evening while the surge of the northeasterly wind flow will result in a generally southwestward movement beginning on Sunday.

“Marce is forecast to continue to weaken for the next few days due to the possible dry air intrusion from the prevailing northeasterly wind flow. Nevertheless, it will remain as a typhoon throughout its passage within the PAR region,” PAGASA stated.
