The latest survey of Tangere shows the brothers Erwin and Ben Tulfo leading the top 12 among the 66 bets in the list of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Conducted from October 10 to 12, 2024, the survey had Erwin Tulfo leading the pack with 62.33 percent, followed by his brother, broadcaster Ben Tulfo at 49 percent. Almost tied at 3rd and 4th places were comebacking former Senate President Tito Sotto, 46.50 percent, and reelectionist Sen. Pia S. Cayetano, 46.08 percent. At fifth was reelectionist Sen. Bong Go.
Former senators Manny Pacquiao, 42.21 percent, and Ping Lacson, 38.92 percent, took the sixth and seventh slots, while Makati City Mayor Abby Binay was at 8th place. Former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos was at 9th place, with 33.42 percent while Rep. Rodante Marcoleta took 10th place at 31.88 percent.
Sharing 11th and 12th places were reelectionists Lito Lapid and Francis Tolentino.
Nine in the top 12 belong to the administration’s Alyansa ticket, one is from PDP while two are independent bets.
According to Martin Penaflor, CEO of Tangere, “current events have an effect on people’s sentiment,” particularly favoring those closely aligned with the Marcos Jr. administration.
He highlighted the case of Imee Marcos, who currently ranks in the top 18 of senatorial survey results. Despite being a member of the Marcos family, Penaflor noted a key uncertainty among voters: whether Imee is aligned with President Marcos Jr. or Vice President Sara Duterte.
“She was originally part of the administration team and then later on went on to be an independent. But because of the ongoing concerns with her brother and our current Vice President, that’s the reason why she fell down for the second consecutive month,” Penaflor stated.
“On our August survey, she was top 12. Last month, she was in the top 14. Now, she’s in the top 18 in our survey. So, that’s the effect now of the alliances,” he added.
Penaflor also addressed the recent rise in voter preference for Abalos, attributing it to the arrest of alleged Chinese spy Alice Guo and concerns over the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
Reelectionisy Bato Dela Rosa has experienced a sharp decline in survey rankings, dropping from 6th place last year to 17th in the most recent polls, Penaflor said. He attributed this drop to growing public concern over the Duterte administration’s drug war.
