Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla confirmed Monday the appointment of his brother, Cavite Governor Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla as the next secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Jonvic will replace outgoing Interior Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos, Jr., who has filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) seeking a senatorial post for the 2025 midterm elections.
“[Jonvic is] scheduled to have an oath-taking tomorrow… In fact, I think he’s withdrawing from candidacy as we speak,” Remulla told reporters.
He added “commitments can be made instantly” as they can discuss matters that must be done and “there will be better coordination.”
The older Remulla noted the appointment will have a good effect on the justice system citing the training among policemen and prosecutors.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) serves as the government’s prosecution arm while the DILG handles administrative control over local governments, including local police forces.
