The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its field office in Cagayan Valley provided psychosocial first aid, among other interventions, to the evacuees of Typhoon Julian in the region, an official of the agency said.
“Apart from providing family food packs (FFPs), the DSWD also ensures the overall well-being of families affected by Super Typhoon Julian. This is part of the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) role of the agency,” DSWD Assistant Secretary Juan Carlo Marquez said.
According to Marquez, who also serves as co-spokesperson of the agency, the DSWD in Cagayan Valley also conducted psychosocial interventions to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking temporary shelter inside the evacuation centers in the island province of Batanes.
Based on the DSWD Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication (DROMIC) report as of October 3, there are 86 families or 260 persons currently taking temporary shelter in 17 evacuation centers in Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
There are 23 families or 87 individuals inside evacuation centers across the Cagayan Valley region, according to Marquez. As of October 3, the agency already released more than P14.2 million worth of humanitarian assistance for the families affected by the super typhoon.
The DSWD-Cagayan Valley so far provided 3,332 boxes of FFPs, as well as sleeping kits to the affected families in the region.
“Rest assured that the DSWD will continue to provide the necessary interventions to the affected families to support them as they recover from the effects of Super Typhoon Julian,” Marquez said.
