Marcos vows career growth, resources for public school teachers

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to the career advancement of public school teachers during the 2024 National Teachers’ Day celebration in Quezon City.

“We are committed to ensuring that you have ample resources to teach—whether by additional materials, reducing non-teaching, and/or reducing non-teaching responsibilities,” Mr. Marcos said during his address.

“So, in line with that commitment, we have implemented several measures that will transform the lives of our 860,000 public school teachers,” he added.

The President vowed that no teacher would retire at an entry-level position. He highlighted the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system under Executive Order No. 174, which offers two career paths: classroom teaching and school administration.

“We have also streamlined the career path for public school administrators to lay the groundwork for school leaders rising from the ranks of Master Teachers,” Marcos said.

“With this flexibility to move between classroom teaching and school administration, you can grow professionally, explore new roles, and assume leadership positions,” he added.

The President discussed initiatives like the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, which provides a P5,000 tax-free allowance for teaching supplies set to increase to P10,000 next year. Teachers will also see salary increases and a P7,000 medical allowance under Executive Order No. 64, as well as coverage under the GSIS Personal Accident Insurance Policy.
