From claiming she has a death threat to looking quite unbothered, some netizens are left wondering just what to feel about Alice Guo.
Images of the dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor smiling for the cameras and happily taking group selfies with law enforcement personnel and even government officials surfaced online hours before her expected arrival in Manila from Jakarta, Indonesia.
A photo released by the National Bureau of Investigation showing Guo inside a car with some of its officers generated mixed reactions on various social media platforms. Many found it both funny and disturbing at the same time.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, who chairs the Senate panel that investigates allegations versus Guo, even commented at the craziness of it all.
“Reminder to all government employees: Alice Guo is a fugitive. She has a human trafficking case. She is not a celebrity,” Hontiveros said in a mix of English and Tagalog.
Another unverified photo of Guo smiling widely with Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil was also going viral on X (formerly Twitter).
A videoclip posted by GMA Integrated News on X featuring Abalos and Marbil arriving in Indonesia to fetch Guo likewise made former Senator Panfilo Lacson feel quite confused over what he just watched.
“Top level delegation to meet with a suspected criminal offender named Alice? Only in Wonderland,” Lacson replied in the post.
Bayan Muna national president Renato Reyes, Jr. also criticized the special treatment being accorded to Guo. “Double standards ng hustisya sa Pilipinas (The Philippine justice system reeks of double standards),” he said.
Guo is expected to arrive in Manila between midnight to pre-dawn hours this Friday, according to authorities.
