Philippine Army showcases earthquake response capabilities

Philippine Army’s 525th Combat Engineer “Forerunner” Battalion (525CEBn) on Tuesday demonstrated its earthquake response capabilities to a visiting delegation from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF).

Despite adverse weather conditions, the unit utilized various Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) equipment provided by the Japanese government in 2021 during the rescue drill focused on earthquake scenarios.

This demonstration is part of the four-year Japan-Philippines HADR Cooperation Project Framework, designed to enhance the disaster response capabilities of both forces for a range of emergencies including volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, earthquakes, and floods.

In addition to this demo, the PA and JGSDF teams are scheduled to conduct practical HADR exercises in Legazpi City, Albay on September 5.
