Taiwan needs at least 8,000 Filipino workers willing to work in the manufacturing sector, according to the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
MECO chairman Silvestre H. Bello III said the job vacancies are up for grabs in job fairs slated for September 9 and 11 in the cities of Laoag and Vigan in the Ilocos provinces to be participated in by 17 Taiwan Manpower Agencies and employers.
Bello said the job offerings are their way of paying tribute to the late President Marcos, the father of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., on his 107th birth anniversary on September 11.
“Among the good news in these job fairs is that prospective hires will not be charged placement fees. There will be no deployment cost for the lucky job aspirants,” Bello said.
The agencies, belonging to the group called Responsible Business Alliance of Taiwan, will fly to Laoag and Vigan for the job fair. They include the Grand Placement, FilSino, Everbest, City Employment, Sky Bourne, Jedegal, Bright Star, Jopman, EyeQuest, September Star, Tengllong, Workforce, World Trans, Gerdin, and Mission Way. Leading Taiwan food processing company IMEI Foods and Golden Brothers are also participating.
Organized jointly with the Department of Migrant Workers, the Migrant Workers Offices in Taiwan and the provincial governments of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, and the local Public Employment Services Offices, the job events are expected to draw in thousands of jobseekers from the Ilocos provinces and nearby areas.
Ilocos Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos III, and local officials led by Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Joseph Manotoc, Ilocos Sur Gov. Jeremias Singson and former Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson will be joined by Bello and DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia and Taipei Migrant Workers Office director Cesar Chavez in the event.
The venues of the event are the Centennial Arena in Laoag City, and the Provincial Farmers Livelihood Development Center on Quezon Ave., Vigan City.
