The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has announced the appointment of lawyer Michael Poa, former undersecretary and spokesperson for the Department of Education (DepEd), as its official spokesperson.

The appointment, effective Monday, comes exactly one month after Poa resigned from his position at DepEd.

Vice President Sara Duterte stepped down from her position as vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and as Secretary of Education.

Exactly one month later, then Education Undersecretary Michael Poa and five other DepEd officials also resigned from their positions.

“I think it is only appropriate to give the incoming Secretary of Education, Secretary Angara, a free hand to choose the people that will form part of his team,” Poa said.

“I will just wait for instructions from the Vice President, if any,” he added when asked if he would be joining the Office of the Vice President.
