Zubiri puts blame on Manila Bay reclamations for flooding

At least two senators blamed the Manila Bay reclamations as the culprit behind the massive flooding in the Senate in Pasay City.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri described the Senate building as “mala-Siargao,” mockingly calling it the country’s “Surfing Capital.”

Zubiri said he believes this is the consequence of all the reclamations happening in Manila Bay.

“No more outlets in Pasay City where flood waters can come out,” he said, remarking that flooding always happens every time there are heavy rains.

Senator Joel Villanueva, meanwhile, said they parked their cars over at EDSA around 3:30 in the morning as water began to rise in the Senate premises.

“Reclamation pa more,” he commented.

He also rebuked DPWH for failing to address this concern.

“Imagine for the past two years (including this year), we have had this P1B a day flood control budget for DPWH alone, P1B a day,” he said.

“Please tell me if anyone here can see at least an improvement sa mga baha,” Villanueva challenged.

“Oh well, more important right now is to secure our people and that they are all safe at may access to food.”
