A strong magnitude 5 to 5.1 earthquake hit Cagayan and Northern Samar on weekend, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs) said.
Based on Earthquake Information Number 2 of Phivolcs, a magnitude 5.1 tremor jolted Dalupiri Island, Calayan, Cagayan on 6:29 pm of July 6, tectonic in origin with a depth of 3km.
According to reports, its exact location is 19.14 degrees North, 121.16 degrees East- 006 km North 57 degrees West of Dalupiri Island.
Reported intensities from the tremor were placed in different parts of Cagayan – Intensity III was felt in Claveria while Intensity II was felt in Lasam.
Instrumental Intensity II was monitored in Claveria, Cagayan.
“Aftershocks were expected but damage in the tremor was not monitored.”
A magnitude 5.0 quake meanwhile rattled Lope De Vega, Northern Samar at 12:01 am of July 7.
Reports from Phivolcs said its origin is tectonic in nature with a depth of 80km.
Its exact location is 12.38 degrees North, 124.60 degree East- 010 km North 13 degrees West of Lope De Vega.
Placed under Intensity IV were Lope De Vega, Catarman, Bobon, Mondragon, Palapag, San Roque, Pambujan, San Jose, Rosario, Lavezares, San Isidro, Victoria, Silvino Lobos, and Catubig in Northern Samar and in Calbayog City and Sta. Margarita in Samar.
Placed under Intensity III were Allen, Laoang, Mapanas, Gamay, Lapinig and Capul in Northern Samar, Arteche, San Policarpo, Dolores, Oras, Can-avid, Taft, San Julian, and Sulat in Eastern Samar, Gandara, Tarangan, Calbayog City, San Jorge, Motiong, Paranas, Pinabacdao, Calbiga and Villareal in Samar.
Placed under Intensity II were Santa Rita and Basey in Samar, Borongan City, Maydolong, Llorente and Hernani in Eastern Samar and Tacloban City, Babatngon and San Miguel in Leyte.
The agency said that no damage was reported but aftershocks were expected.
