‘Bagong Pilipinas’ hymn, pledge in flag rites

To reinforce the principles of his governance agenda, President Marcos has issued a directive mandating the recital of the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ hymn and pledge during weekly flag ceremonies across all government offices and educational institutions.

The move aims to foster a sense of unity and patriotism among government employees and students nationwide, according to a news release published by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Sunday, June 9.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed a memorandum dated June 4, instructing all national government agencies, including state-owned corporations, and educational institutions to incorporate the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ hymn and pledge in their flag-raising activities.

“The heads of all national government agencies and instrumentalities shall ensure that the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Pledge, which are annexed to this Circular, are properly disseminated

within their respective institutions and offices,” the memo stated.

PCO has been tasked with overseeing the effective communication and widespread dissemination of the hymn and pledge. This measure is designed to align government operations with the values of ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ and promote active citizen participation in governance.

The Bagong Pilipinas initiative represents the administration’s brand of governance and leadership, guiding all government entities to uphold the principles of integrity, accountability, and unified societal institutions.

It envisions a government that inspires and empowers Filipinos to engage in the transformative process aimed at deep and fundamental social and economic reforms across all sectors.

Under this directive, educational institutions and government offices are expected to follow Section 18 of Republic Act (RA) No. 8491, also known as the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.”

The law mandates flag-raising ceremonies every Monday morning and flag-lowering ceremonies every Friday afternoon. The integration of the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Pledge is set to become a key component of these activities.
