The development project covers the airport’s runway strip grade correction, expansion of turnaround pads, construction of an access road going to the control tower, and development of VPA and drainage system.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the continued development at the airport is geared towards the agency’s goal of providing safer and more efficient air travel, along with improved connectivity and mobility in the Ilocos Region.

The project is also part of the Philippine government’s plans to enhance air connectivity and mobility, aimed to make the country more connected and globally competitive.

The Marcos administration has initiated rehabilitation and modernization projects for various airports, such as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Clark International Airport (CRK), and the new Manila International Airport in Bulacan.

Congress allotted P7.5 billion this year for the construction, rehabilitation, and improvement of various airports and navigational facilities across the country, as well as the procurement of equipment.
