House panel wants vape firm closed

THE House of Representatives’ Committee on Ways and Means has called on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to immediately cancel the business permit and manufacturing license of a popular vape company.

Committee chairman Albay Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda made the recommendation amid reports of alleged violations of the country’s landmark vaping law by the Flava Corp., dealer of a popular brand of vape products.

In a congressional hearing, the panel approved the committee report based on investigations into Flava’s alleged violations of the anti-vaping law enacted to protect the youth from nicotine-addiction.

The inquiry reportedly unearthed Flava’s string of offences, including tax evasion and marketing flavored vapes to minors, as well as infractions of  Republic Act (RA) 11900, or the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act.
