THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Metro Manila on Friday said 3,510 motorists were apprehended last month for violation of Republic Act (RA) 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
The LTO’s Law Enforcement Unit said the apprehensions included 1,860 motorists for violation of the no-travel no-registration policy; 1,097 motorists for not using seat belts as provided by RA 8750; 535 motorists for not wearing helmet as mandated by RA 10054; three for violations of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act under RA 10913; 14 for not complying with the children’s safety on motorcycle rule under RA 10666, and one motorist for driving under the influence of prohibited drugs under RA 10586.
Apart from the LTO’s apprehensions, the Department of Public Works and Highways also flagged down 25 motorists, while the Philippine National Police took action against 193 individuals during the same period.
LTO-National Capital Region director Roque Verzosa III stressed that these operations would continue throughout the year.
He underscored the importance of implementing traffic laws, saying the government wants to promote public safety by defining and regulating acceptable behavior on the road, to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, to ensure orderly and efficient traffic flow, to prevent traffic congestion, and to minimize disruptions.
