The death toll following the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that hit Davao Occidental on Friday climbed to eight, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said yesterday.
The NDRRMC said 13 people were also reportedly injured.
It likewise recorded a total of 125 damaged houses and infrastructures in Davao City, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, South Cotabato and Sarangani.
President Marcos, who is set to return from Hawaii tonight, directed government officials to continue monitoring the situation in Mindanao.
“Let’s just be vigilant. Let’s keep watching. We must pay attention to aftershocks because sometimes maraming nagiging casualty sa aftershock,” he said in a online meeting with government officials.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 12 said nine national and provincial roads, as well as four bridges, were damaged in Soccsksargen.
OCD 12 information officer Jorie Mae Balmediano said that some of the damaged roads were already passable using one lane, but only for light vehicles.
Two bridges in Glan, and another one in Malapatan, Sarangani were also damaged.
Balmediano also said that power supply in the region was already restored on Saturday, but the municipality of Glan and some areas in General Santos City still experience intermittent power outages.
There were also no problems with food and water supplies among affected individuals, he said.
Based on the latest Department of Social Welfare and Development report, there were 951 families or 1,229 individuals in 25 villages affected by the earthquake.
The DSWD also reported an initial P5.1 million worth of aid to families affected by the earthquake.
The DSWD Field Office-12 distributed 6,500 family food packs (FFPs) to Sarangani province and General Santos City.
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development meanwhile has activated its shelter cluster teams in earthquake-affected regions in Mindanao.
The affected regional offices were also tasked to submit daily situation reports to the DHSUD central office.
