The Philippines has been elected as vice-chair of the 58th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA) now being held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Philippines, represented by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) director general Capt. Manuel Antonio Tamayo, is committed to promoting aviation safety, security, and environmental sustainability.

“We are honored to be participating at the DGCA58 in this capacity. The Philippines has always been an active participant in the international aviation community and this election is a testament to our obligation,” Tamayo said.

The conference, which started Sunday, is centered on the theme “Promoting ICAO Gender Equality Programme in conjunction with Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) initiative.”

The CAAP has reported the Philippine government’s commitment to gender equality through its Gender and Development Programs (GAD), the NGAP-anchored programs of local aviation schools, as well as its own efforts to support and produce aviation technical scholars through its training arm, the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC).

The DGCA is the annual gathering of directors general of aviation in the Asia and Pacific Region, wherein discussions and side meetings on various subject areas are held.

The efforts of the attending member states in relation to topics such as aviation safety, aviation security, air navigation, aviation and the environment, and the economic development of air transportation, among others, are also discussed.

With the Philippines, through CAAP, taking part in the international event, the country will be able to share and participate in dialogues on important aviation matters while also promoting the aviation industry in the country and its commitment to the mission of providing safe, secure, efficient, and sustainable air transport services.

CAAP is the national aviation authority of the Philippines, representing the country in the international aviation community as a member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
