Cops seize P10 million shabu, nab suspect in Mandaue raid

Police have seized more than P10 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested a suspect in an early Saturday morning buy-bust operation in Mandaue City, Cebu.

The operatives confiscated 1.5 kilograms of the illegal substance from John Alex Villaraza, 18, a resident of Barangay Caritas in Cebu City.

Meanwhile, an estimated P8.6 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized during anti-smuggling operations headed by the Bureau of Customs-Port of Zamboanga (BOC-POZ).

BOC district collector Segundo Sigmundfreud Barte Jr. said five operations were conducted from July 25 to August 11, resulting in the confiscation of 276 cases and 327 reams of smuggled cigarettes.

The operatives conducted two apprehensions during seaborne patrols and three at customs checkpoints.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agents inspected the smuggled goods for the possible presence of illegal drugs.

The operations were done in coordination with the Philippine National Police 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company, the Philippine Coast Guard Station in Zamboanga, the Philippine Navy, and the Regional Special Operations Unit-9.

The BOC took custody of the vessels, vehicles, and the cigarette shipment for disposition under Republic Act 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act of 2016, as well as the tobacco exportation and importation rules and regulations.
