Eenergy Sec. Raphael Lotilla assured that the government will come up with a safety net to ensure that the country will be safe in case it uses nuclear power as an alternative energy source.

Speaking during the organizational meeting of the Senate Energy Committee chaired by Sen. Raffy Tulfo, Lotilla said they will work with other ASEAN counties that are also exploring nuclear power plants.
Tulfo conducted the hearing and asked Lotilla about the safety measures to avert disasters amid the government’s plans to use nuclear power.

Tulfo said that the country should avoid disasters similar to the Fukushima nuclear meltdown in Japan.
Tulfo said he supports the use of nuclear energy, but aired some concerns. Tulfo also exhorted Lotilla to address the massive power outages in several provinces.

Amid brownouts, Tulfo said consumers still pay a lot when it comes to their electric bills. He also cited the immediafe disconnection of electric supply for those who failed to settle their electric bills. “Can you do something about it Secretary Lotilla, something about that?”Tulfo said, adding that he will not stop until this problem is resolved.

During the meeting, Tulfo said he is looking forward to working with the members of the Senate Committee on Energy to urgently address the pressing issues hounding the energy sector.

This include the soaring prices of electricity and fuel that are causing people to suffer.

“To make changes, through legislation, that would make it easier for the everyday Filipino to warm his home, cook his meals, go to work, and receive a better quality of life. I expect all the members of this committee to join me in achieving these principal goals,” he added.

Tulfo earlier filed Senate Resolution (PSR) No. 107 calling for a Senate investigation into the persistent and recurring power outages and rotational blackouts in the different parts of the country, as well as the rising cost of electricity amid these power interruptions.
