Authorities are investigating the case of a man who died after he reportedly jumped off the third floor of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Thursday afternoon.

Michael Laureño, 26, a resident of Barangay Sto. Nino, Tomas, South Cotabato, was rushed to the Pasay City General Hospital but his attending physician declared him dead while undergoing treatment due to severe head and body injury.

Initial investigation conducted by the Airport Police Department (APD) showed that the incident happened around 1 p.m. outside the departure area of NAIA Terminal 1.

Laureño fell to the ground in front of the Assistant General Manager for Emergency and Security (AGMES) office.

In a statement, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) commiserates with the family of Laureño, who it stated, “jumped-off from the public area at the departure level of NAIA Terminal 1 and landed at the pavement of the arrival area at noon today.“

“Statement obtained by the MIAA police from a nearby (woman) witness revealed that she saw the subject looking bothered walking back and forth staring blankly at distance. Shortly after, the witness saw the man go up the ledge and jump-off,” it added.

The Airport management also stated that a subsequent review of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footages corroborated the statement of the lady witness.

Just recently, members of the Police – Aviation Security Group rescued a woman who tried to commit suicide by jumping from the departure curb side near the flag poles, also at the airport terminal 1.

Airport medical officers said the woman was suffering from depression and was later turned-over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
