West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has recently held a series of river clean-up drives in Muntinlupa City to help improve the quality of water in tributaries that flow into Laguna Lake.

The company’s raw water source for the supply needs of some two million consumers in the southern part of its concession.

Over 320 sacks or 2,584 kilos of solid waste were collected by estero rangers during the 14-day clean-up drive along the Magdaong and Alabang-Bayanan rivers.

The activity done in partnership with the Muntinlupa Lake Management Office also enabled Maynilad to clear out clogs in waterways that cause flooding in the area during the rainy season.

“These river clean-up drives are among the interventions we are taking to help reduce pollution load into Laguna Lake, which is being used as a source for drinking water and should therefore be protected. We call on other stakeholders to also partner with us in this environmental conservation initiative,” president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.

The water company is also donating solar paddle wheels and a water quality analyzer equipment to Muntinlupa City to help mitigate algal bloom episodes in Laguna Lake.

Such initiatives complement Maynilad’s ongoing effort to create water-secure and sustainable communities, of which having healthy waterways is a vital component.
