President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Sabin Aboitiz, CEO of Aboitiz, to be the head of the newly-created Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC).
The PSAC, which is composed of business leaders and experts, seeks to assist the government in achieving its various economic objectives.
“The close partnership between the public and private sectors will continue to deepen with the establishment of PSAC under President Marcos,” Aboitiz said in a statement Wednesday.
“We are optimistic that by working hand-in-hand with the government to develop the five priority areas, we will see a revitalized economy that all Filipinos will benefit from,” he added.
The Council had a meeting with Marcos in Malacañang on July 7.
Marcos said the discussion focused on scaling up the agricultural sector as well as closer cooperation between the private sector and the government to establish programs that will help farmers.
Designated sector leads of the PSAC include Aboitiz for Build, Build, Build and Tourism; Aileen Uygongco-Ongkauko for Agriculture; Joey Concepcion for Jabs to Jobs; Henry Aguda for Digital Infrastructure; and Paolo Borromeo for Healthcare.
PSAC said the sectoral groups will “regularly report to the President to provide feedback on what is happening on the ground and will make recommendations on modern policy development.”

Among five areas PSAC pledged “to help the government deliver” are: robust infrastructure program; job creation; digitalization; improving agricultural productivity through the recalibration of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs); and ensuring an equitable, sustainable, and inclusive business landscape for Filipino.
“It is refreshing to hear ideas from them, and I’m excited to establish programs with the cooperation of the private sector to help our farmers,” Marcos said in a Twitter post after the meeting.
