Kanlaon Volcano in Negros province and Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon, Bicol had been showing signs of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs officer in charge Renato Solidum Jr. said the agency was able to record “tornillo type volcanic earthquakes” around Kanlaon Volcano in past days.
“The quake has a screw-shaped pattern on a seismograph, which is a cause of concern,” he said, adding such an event is usually followed by an explosion,” he said.
“Just like Kanlaon, we see a possible steam-driven explosion in Bulusan,” he added.
The edifice of both volcanoes has slightly inflated, and that entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is prohibited.
