Dinagat gets LTO agency

President Duterte has signed a law that gives the island-province of Dinagat a Land Transportation Office agency.

The LTO agency is the first new government office to be established in Dinagat Islands after the devastation of Typhoon Odette in December 2021.

“We in Dinagat Islands welcome the passage of Republic Act 11745, establishing a local Land Transportation Office (LTO) in our legislative District,” said Rep. Alan Ecleo, the recently-reelected Representative of the Lone District of Dinagat Islands.

“We are happy that our first term is bookended with the establishment of a government service office which will provide convenience and support to our fellow Dinagatnons,” Ecleo said.

Last December, Typhoon Odette crippled the functioning of government services in Dinagat Islands after the supertyphoon leveled the whole Province, destroying much of its public infrastructure, including government offices, schools, and hospitals.

“We are not only building back better, we are building back more,” Ecleo stressed. “In an Island Province such as ours, bringing the government closer to the people cannot be realized without national agencies having their own offices here.”

According to Ecleo, the building will put an end to the necessity of “suffering long hours of seafaring and land travel to Surigao in order to get access to LTO services” for residents of the Island Province.

The enactment of RA 11745 comes only recently after the signing of RA 11736 into law also filed by Cong. Ecleo, which established a Multispecies Marine Hatchery in the Municipality of Basilisa, Dinagat Islands.

“The enactment of these two laws communicate to our brothers and sisters in Dinagat Islands that we are not only on our way to recovery and rehabilitation, we are also moving towards a more self-sufficient, self-reliant Dinagat Islands,” Ecleo added.
