Robredo eyes energy subsidies in Northern Samar

If elected as the next President, Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday promised to deliver energy-related subsidies in Northern Samar.

“The government has yet to allocate more funds here. Power rate is too high. That is why there is a need for the government subsidy, especially on renewable resources,” she said.

Robredo yesterday visited Calbayog, Northern Samar in her campaign sorties.

“You have geothermal, hydrogen resources, and that’s really why there is really a need for a subsidy from the government, especially now the prices of gasoline have been getting high. If we do not subsidize, we could not move forward,” she said.

Even the farmers and fisherfolks need subsidies, she added. She also vowed to deliver development projects in the province.

In Ilocos Norte, volunteers of Robredo vowed to deliver votes for her presidential bid in the 2022 elections.

The group, led by Zsazsa Raval, lead convenor of Ilocos Norte for Leni-Kiko Volunteers (INLOVE), said they had only eight members in October 2021, but the number grew bigger with over 800 volunteers taking part in their march.

“The North belongs to the Filipino people,” the group said.

The Ilocano “Kakampinks” said they aim to give Robredo and her running mate Senator Francis Pangilinan at least 10 percent of Ilocos Norte’s vote.

They dismissed the “Solid North” narrative in favor of the Marcos clan.

According to Raval, in their march around Laoag City to Aurora park, they had only 15 members. She said she has learned the art of ignoring bashers and hecklers.

Pangilinan on Monday meanwhile reiterated that Robredo and the people have chosen him as the vice-president’s running-mate.

Robredo has repeatedly dismissed the idea of hybrid tandems and that Pangilinan is her only choice in this campaign.

Some politicians have pushed for other vice-presidential candidates to pair with Robredo.

Pangilinan, in a radio interview, said it is just politics when asked to comment on “cross-party” tandems. Pangilinan and Robredo are currently in Samar as they barnstorm Region 8.
