Lacson supports nationwide shift to Alert Level 1

Partido Reporma presidential candidate Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday aired his support to the recommendation of the economic managers of the Cabinet to shift the entire country to Alert Level 1.

Lacson said he also rallies behind suggestions to prepare for the transition from pandemic to endemic.

“Our economy has taken a bad beating from the lockdowns and imposed alert levels over the past two years and needs to recover, especially at this time,” he said.

He said government authorities must also be prepared for the next pandemic or any variant that might again endanger the health situation in the country.

“As I always say, there is no trade-off between health and economy,” Lacson said.

“We must always be prepared to confront the problems affecting both. We cannot afford a repeat of 2020 when the government was caught unprepared,” he added.

Lacson said he also believes that public funds should be spent on the domestic development of agricultural products to ensure food security for Filipinos and help farmers cope with rising oil prices.

He said the national government should directly connect local farmers and fishermen to the programs of the University of the Philippines-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UP-BIOTECH), which are developing cheaper fertilizer alternatives.

“Some fertilizers are oil-based. Once the prices of oil peak in the international market, it will directly affect the prices of fertilizers,” the veteran lawmaker said during a Farmers Forum in Daet, Camarines Norte last week.

Lacson said he and his running mate, Senate President Tito Sotto III, allocated funds for the UP-BIOTECH based in Los Baños, Laguna for its research and development sector to come up with new science-based products that would be beneficial to local agricultural workers.
