Robredo tops poll survey of Catholic schools

Vice President Leni Robredo emerged as the top choice for president among respondents from Catholic educational institutions across the country.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) said Robredo got 52.57 percent out of a total of 3,089 responses from students, school heads and administrators, non-teaching personnel, alumni, and other staff of voting age.

The 2nd National Elections Pulse survey was conducted from January 24 to February 4, which CEAP acknowledged was “during the height of issues [before] the Commission on Elections regarding the petition to cancel the certificate of candidacy of presidential aspirant ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and the release of the decision [junking the case].”

In second place was Marcos with 24.54 percent followed by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso with 9.61 percent, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson with 3.53 percent, Senator Manny Pacquiao with 0.87 percent and labor leader Leody De Guzman with 0.26 percent.

During the first CEAP survey conducted before the deadline of the filing of COCs in October, Robredo received 45.16 percent of the votes while Marcos got 20.86 percent.

In all age groups, Robredo got the highest number of votes while across designations, she was the top pick by school heads/administrators, teaching personnel, non-teaching personnel, and other designation.

Marcos, on the other hand, was the top pick among students and alumni.

Among the 17 CEAP regions, Robredo topped in 11 regions while Marcos was the top pick in five. Pacquiao, on the other hand, was the leading candidate in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

On the other hand, Robredo’s running mate, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, topped the survey for the vice presidential race with 30.37 percent, followed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio with 26.84 percent, Dr. Willie Ong with 14.28 percent, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III with 11.72 percent, and former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza with 0.71 percent.

For the senatorial race, the top 12 senators selected by the respondents across age groups and designations are as follows: Francis Escudero, Risa Hontiveros, Chel Diokno, Sherwin Gatchalian, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Loren Legarda, Joel Villanueva, Alan Peter Cayetano, Dick Gordon, Raffy Tulfo, Antonio Trillanes IV, and Leila de Lima.

The statement did not indicate the margin of error of the survey.

CEAP is composed of more than 1,525 member-schools and over 120 superintendents of Catholic schools.
