Pop icon Cher wants Leni to lead

The stakes are high for the 2022 presidential elections as the country is divided into factions depending on their bet. Presently, Vice President Leni Robredo and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. are the top candidates among the five other presidential aspirants that Filipinos are supporting immensely.

Even celebrities are expressing their support for their respective candidates. Some local personalities who publicly announced that they stand behind Leni are Robi Domingo, Carmi Martin, Angel Aquino, Marjorie Barretto, and Saab Magalona, among others.

With many Filipinos across the globe voicing their opinions on the matter, it’ll only be a matter of time before other countries and celebrities catch wind of what’s happening in the country.

Much to the Filipinos’ surprise, US singer Cher, the Goddess of Pop, publicly announced her support for Leni as the next president of the Philippines.

It began with Cher tweeting, “Excuse Don’t Know Leni,” to which a Filipino netizen proudly replied, “Leni Robredo is the current Vice President of the Philippines and soon to be our President!”

Enlightened and amused by this claim, Cher replied with a powerful message about how women like Leni should hold positions of power to get the job done.

“Bravo! Let women do it! Let Leni and all women fighting to save [the] climate, children, elderly, poor, and homeless people of all colors, ethnicities, and LGBTQ+. Force honor in government makes medical care, education, and childcare free. Tax corporations, stop child labor, animal cruelty, etc. #2GETHERWERSTRONG,” her tweet read.

Although social media platforms have seen their fair share of edited endorsements from foreign personalities on who to vote for this upcoming 2022 presidential election, Cher’s approval is authentic and has left everyone in awe at this development.

Unfortunately, not everyone saw Cher’s support for Robredo as positive. Within minutes of her tweet, the renowned global pop icon received commendations and backlash from netizens. But being the unbothered queen that she is, Cher remains steadfast with her decision, saying she’s “trying to help make changes.”

“I don’t know everything, everyone. Cut me some slack. I work hours every day, sometimes talking to several continents at once trying to help, make changes. Bye,” she said in a separate tweet.

Whether her latest tweet is meant for the Filipino netizens attacking her for her decision or not, there’s no denying that Cher wants a woman to lead the Philippines to get the job done effectively.
